Promotion:
Community Schools – NOPA will assist
in the funding and promotion of Portuguese language community schools to help
Portuguese-American youth develop and maintain their ability to speak and write
Portuguese. NOPA will assist community organizations offering classes and those
who wish to develop schools in seeking and attaining financial support through
gifts and grants. Assistance will also be offered to innovative ventures and
multi-media programs that will help teach children at home.
High-School and College Courses – NOPA will
work with other organizations in the promotion of high school and college-level
Portuguese foreign language programs. Although community programs are important
and make a significant contribution, it is important that education systems and
institutions of higher education recognize the importance and need to teach
Portuguese. NOPA will also support education Portuguese-American educators
seeking their language teaching certificates.
Scholarships:
NOPA
provides scholarship opportunities to college students of Portuguese descent
through the generosity of supporting members. NOPA will also seek to provide
scholarships for the Concordia Language Villages’ premier youth cultural and
language immersion summer program.
Cultural
Promotion:
NOPA
has a proactive vision toward raising awareness about the Portuguese-American
culture, arts, humanities, and history with the collaboration of affiliates and
partners.
